Earle Hagen was 2003 Guest of Honor at Mayberry Days in Mount Airy, North Carolina - the premier event on the “Mayberry Calendar” of events which are staged annually across the U.S.A. for fans of “The Andy Griffith Show” et all.
Mayberry Days takes place during the last week in September, and is sponsored by the Surrey Arts Council.
Festivities kicked off with a gala motorcade, lead by Grand Marshall Earle Hagen, and witnessed by 25,000 fans. Events also included a variety show, celebrity Mayberry lecture and a golf tournament, as well as the annual meeting of the fan club.

The genial composer of the famed whistling theme was one of the most popular guests in years, and admitted to the week being a particularly enjoyable occasion on his calendar for 2003. Besides participating in numerous TV and radio interviews, as well as book signings, Earle Hagen had a chance to become personally acquainted with many of his fans - a special treat he enjoyed very much.
